Summary

Aligned with the ISWP’s mission to ensure that all wheelchair users receive appropriate services provided by trained personnel, this three-part webinar series focuses on paediatric wheelchair provision. Children who require wheelchairs face distinct clinical and developmental challenges. Ensuring early and appropriate intervention improves not only mobility but overall health, participation, and quality of life.

This webinar series supports ISWP’s goals by promoting awareness, sharing best practices, and strengthening professional competencies in paediatric wheelchair provision.

Webinar Recording 1: Early Positioning – Supporting Healthy Development (Tamara Kittelson)

Tamara Kittelson

Tamara Kittelson is an Occupational Therapist, RESNA certified ATP/SMS and ISWP certified intermediate wheelchair provider. She founded Posture 24-7 and Eleanore’s Project, promoting 24-hour posture care management and appropriate seating and wheeled mobility provision in low resource settings, and has presented and written on these topics nationally and internationally.

She is a Friend of iNRRTS, founding chair of the RESNA 24-7 Posture Care Management special interest group, and a member of AOTA, RESNA, and currently Executive Director of the Clinician Task Force in the United States. She served children and adults with complex neurodisabilities in Montana, 1983-2022, before moving back to Minneapolis, Minnesota where she grew up. Tamara credits her daughter Eleanore, born with cerebral palsy and profound deafness, as her best teacher.

Here, he breaks down barriers by offering easily digestible information to all those dedicated to the disability sector. His goal is to make education for clinicians not just educational but also entertaining – ‘edutainment’.

He’s an adventure-seeking, fence-hopping, nature-loving individual. If you see him around, don’t hesitate to ask for a hug and a friendly ‘hello.’
