More than 80 million people need a wheelchair, yet most will never receive one that fits their body, environment or daily life. Even in well-resourced countries, inequalities persist. This is an unacceptable reality—and one we can change together.
Appropriate wheelchair provision requires more than a product. It demands strong policies, skilled providers, appropriate products, robust procurement, meaningful user participation, and a system built on inclusion, dignity and evidence.

Our aim is to...
The risks associated with inappropriate wheelchairs range from social exclusion to various injuries such as falls, repetitive strain injury, and pressure injuries. ISWP is dedicated to mitigating these risks through our mission of expanding the provision of appropriate wheelchairs. We achieve this by advocating for better quality products, ensuring highly qualified providers, providing training to users, and offering follow-on maintenance services. Additionally, we actively support and promote the standards and guidelines published by the World Health Organization (WHO).
With your generous contribution, we can continue our efforts to ensure that people with disabilities have access to the assistive technology, skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to lead healthy, respected, and inclusive lives within their society and community.
